Thoughts after two weeks with Until The Sun Explodes
- It's a Sublime record. It's authentic. I never thought I'd see the day.
- It's a Sublime record! It's got that edge — the one missed by all the reggae-rock bands that came after. See Gangstalker and Personal Hell for examples.
- Everything I've learned about Jakob Nowell makes me think he's his own awesome dude — and that he came to this point in probably the only ways that could've resulted in an authentic product.
- The skits and dubs work. Thank Again had me lol'ing and tearing up. At worst, it's all tasteful.
- There's zero filler tracks. Even songs that don't start out promising deliver — e.g. What For.
- The song that's been stuck in my head is the eponymous one.
- Can't Miss You might be the most representative track.
- Favorite Song is almost too relatable.
- Also Always Going Backwards.
- Evil Men and Figueroa are the sleeper tracks I keep coming back to.
- Pitchfork gave the record a 4.7/10 — which is far higher than I'd rate anything ever made by Pitchfork.
- I need to learn a lot of these lyrics.
